Someone Please Help - The Inmates Are Truly Running The Asylum In Washington

Hello Everyone,
I would never present myself as a wise old sage when it comes to the way things are done in Washington, D.C., so I need a little help. This business about the debt ceiling- am I the only one confused about everything that surrounds it? If this is overly simplified for me, this has been occurring since World War I, and lately both Presidents Bush and Obama raised the ceiling drastically (Bush - wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama - financial bailouts of the banking industry).
Is this why we voted for these insane politicians to go to the asylum known as Washington, D.C.? Is this truly carrying out the "business of the people"? Hey, that's the way to get a deal done, by walking out of the room because you can't come to an agreement. That's so adult of you, Cantor and Boehner. It's time to get your heads out of...well, you know, and all of you, on both sides of the isle, GET THIS DONE! Would all the alpha males please leave the room, so that sensible people can perform the work of the people and the country?
Boehner's plan would have this issue rear its head again in...wait for the dramatic pause.....October 2012! Right before the Presidential election. Oh wait, this genius has to rework his plan because it does not deliver what he promised. It does not cut the amount of spending that he claimed. Repeat after me - Politics as usual!
Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't think I am) but it seems that if raising the debt limit fails, the Republicans are ready to heap all the blame on Obama and the White House. This, in theory, would increase their chances of regaining control of the Oval Office. Can't they just try to get it back the old fashioned way? We didn't forget the gutter politics, fear mongering and mud slinging of 2008, did we?. How I long for the days of "he's a Muslim" and "he's going to hand over the keys of the country to terrorists".
Oh wait, that will start in January 2012. Hopefully, the USA won't be standing in front of the United Nations, with a sign saying "Please let us borrow more international funds. We promise to pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today".
Until next time

I am inclined to agree with you, the debt ceiling is just the topic for now. The inmates will find something else to fiddle with soon enough. Thanks for reading and commenting.

I totally agree with you. The Republicans have become split with the tail - the Tea Party - trying to boss the head. The American people are being held hostage and the only ones winning are the politicians since any cuts that are made in all probability will not affect them, just you and I who pay their salary.
What Americans need to do is get out and vote. Learn the issues and not listen to the prepared speeches which sound good.
Thanks for a great articleHi Michelle,
This is a prime example of the tail wagging the dog. Instead of doing what's right for everyone, these narrow minded tea party members, along with the de facto leader of the free world, John Boehner, have these delusions that their way is right and just. The rest of us can just go jump in a lake somewhere, because at this point, the American people have benn ignored on this issue. Apparently, some people don't to go into politics to help people in general, they go to help themselves and their friends. Thanks for reading and commenting.

These are crummy economic times and the debt ceiling is mired in an unmentionable mess. I'm no economic guru but I know that this outrageous trend cannot continue. The politicians are giving mouthpower, the head honcho continues to get us more into debt and then will make it right with Social Security and Medicare? Oh yea! Something else to look forward to. These are desperate times. The answer is to print money? OMG NO!!!!!!!! The value of the dollar is already in the cellar. If the reps and senators could just work for the country instead of their reelection chances and their parties, they might make some headway. This is a soapbox of mine but I'd better shut down for now. Very fine article. Makes you think, doesn't it.Hi,
I'm tired of my buying power going down the drain, banks trying to take a kidney when the mortgage comes in, and all these politicans simply lying or witholding information for their financial/political gain. To hell with the common people (my new name for the vanishing middle class), we are turning into a nation of haves and have nots. This mess has been helped along by "tea party" members with an agenda. It's time to vote most of the inmates out of the asylums known as the Senate and House of Representatives, and get the job done in Washington. Thanks for reading and commenting.Exactly. Love "inmates out of the asylums ... Senate... House..." That's just brilliant! The Irony, the way I see it, Judge Dred, is that our smart "John Q Voters" voted the same inmates in again. I mean rattle them off - the repeats. Hello. Don't these people read. You get some of the same offenders. At least the ones that knew they were in trouble didn't run. Just look at my State's Christopher Dodd and others. Hard to figure what people are thinking. Or is it that they do not know how to fill out a voting ballot?
