Michael Jackson - Is Now The Time For Controversy?

Michael Jackson, The King of Pop, is being laid to rest today.
>In the hours leading to his funeral and memorial service, many things have been said, both pro - Michael and against Michael. One of the major issues that this brings about is - why the controversial statements now? Rep. Peter King of New York has a video that is online and on the major broadcast networks, stating that Jackson "was a pervert and pedophile" and "would you as a parent or grandparent leave your child with Michael Jackson?".
The thing that Rep. King does not realize is people are celebrating Michael Jackson the artist, not Michael Jackson the litigant. Jackson, during his 50 years on Earth, brought joy into the hearts and lives of millions of people through his music, dance and artistry. There are many who can define moments in their lives through his music. It's one issue if just a few people are mourning Jackson, but the are possibly millions of people, of all races,that are mourning him worldwide.
In the days after the death of The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, I don't remember one politician going on television beating Presley up over his drug use. Most people mourned Presley as a innovative artist that was loved worldwide. After his death, sordid details of his life began to emerge, and lots of individuals looked to make a quick dollar from these stories.
Michael Jackson deserves to be celebrated and laid to rest peacefully. What we should all remember is that not only was Michael an artist, he was also a son, brother, father and uncle. He has a family that is suffering a tremendous loss, but they are suffering publically, unlike most families.
Rep. King, along with any others that wish to join the chorus, will have their day to vilify Jackson, they have the rest of their lives to do it. Maybe they can even make a few dollars along the way, if they choose. The alleged sordid details of Michael's life will come out in time, brought out by those who wish to tarnish his stature.
However, this is not the time for the negativity. Allow him to go without the venom. Michael Jackson, Rest In Peace.

I wholeheartedly agree. We have some nasty people in society who thrive on character assassination. It reflects poorly on their upbringing.
Any man with a daughter would recognize the sincerity and love in his daughter's speech at his funeral. It was not a show. God bless her.

I totally agree with your comment. There are some newspaper columnists that are calling Jackson's memorial a "freak show" among other things. These folks should back off. As I previously stated, the Jackson family is mourning in public - which makes it easier for the shameless people that thrive on character assassination.

I have learned to "judge not lest ye be judged". I myself remember the joy that Michael Jackson brought into my life as a teenager through his wonderful talent. Especially the music and videos. Now is the time to let go and allow him to go in peace.

It's good to hear from you! I feel that most people should have enough on their plates without taking potshots at others. Michael Jackson was an easy target for the naysayers.
I also believe " Let he that is without sin cast the first stone." Those that are engaging in character assassination should ensure that there are no skeletons in their closets.
Michael Jackson should be allowed to R.I.P.

Good article, JD. I am in agreement with you. His family and loved ones are grieving a man the public never knew. I doubt his family cares a bit about the controversy right now. They miss their loved one, just as any of us would.

JD, I agree with you. I can't imagine having to grieve over a family member with the whole world watching. I know it would be that much worse if there were parts of the world who took that time to bring up all of the bad, instead of just remembering the good. Those people should just Beat It!

Yes, I believe that the Jackson family should be allowed to mourn. However, it seems that everyone from former nurses, to lawyers, and gardeners are now weighing in, looking for their 15 minutes of fame.
It is time for Joe Jackson to be quiet, didn't he do enough for the family while Michael and his brothers were growing up?
