Sarah Palin - Does Anyone Really Care?

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, has decided to resign from office, effective July 26, 2009.

This bit of information begs one question - does anyone outside of Alaska really care?
Since coming out of nowhere to become John McCain's pick to be the Republican Vice Presidential candidate on August 29, 2008, she was both an energizing and polarizing figure during the 2008 Presidential Campaign. It's always fun to revisit some of the events surrounding her, such as:
1)The folksy, down to earth, everyday hockey mom had $150,000 dollars spent on her campaign wardrobe by the Republican National Committee, initially denied it, then returned most of the items.
2) She could see Russia from her living room.
3) When asked by Katie Couric what newspapers she read, she responded "All of them." Huh?
4) Repeat after me - Troopergate.
Can someone please tell me what the heck Palin was talking about during the press conference announcing her resignation?
If she claims to be a great leader, why is she resigning? Palin has decided not to seek re-election,so she's leaving office two years early? The national media (or should we say media elite?) has a full court press on her? The basketball analogy of a point guard passing the ball?
I'm sorry, but that sounds somewhat delusional. Looks to me like she is jumping off of a sinking ship and forgot to get in a lifeboat. There is probably a huge negative story coming and she is getting out of the way to avoid possible impeachment. Someone correct me, but I did not see a full court press being put on by the media. I had not heard much about her since the end of the Presidential election, until now. Sarah Palin, please understand - NO ONE CARES. If you choose to resign, go right ahead. If this is what is best for Alaska, so be it. By the way, just how much notice did the media receive for this most important press conference?
Governor Palin, you must also understand, you can no longer be seriously considered as a candidate for national office again. Resigning your office gives the appearance of a person that has commitment issues. Rambling press conferences don't help you either. In conclusion, quoting General MacArthur does not set you up to become a great national leader, it only makes you look, well, somewhat loopy.
Governor Palin, good luck in your future endeavors, just stay away from microphones in public places. Please.
Until next time

Top-level comments on this article: (5 total)Perhaps she felt America needed a break from all of the Michael Jackson coverage? Or, she may have thought since SC's governor was getting publicity, he needed to share the spotlight with another governor. She asked us to trust her decision. Surely, somebody cares? *grinning* It's clear you don't. LOLI care!Mainly because I'm quite scared of what the consequences would be if she gained power on a national / international level though.I'm curious as to how this "shock resignation" story will pan out... hopefully some a detailed explanation will surface at some point soon!Hi Ben,No need to fear. Palin has officially done herself in with her latest actions. A Commander in Chief that will hand over the reigns of power when the media is being critical? A leader that can see when the ball needs to be dropped, er, passed? If Palin does that to Alaska, will America put her in a position to abandon the country? I think not. Thanks for reading and commenting.JDBen, you and quite a number of people are curious, I believe. I'm even curious and I normally don't get into politics. She may think if Richard Nixon could do it, then so can she (remember he announced his resignation from politics but left to build a strong following behind the scenes to comeback and win the Presidential election.) I think she may be sadly mistaken if she's comparing herself to him. Time will tell, eh?Hi Avis,You are SOOOOOO right ! With me, Palin + resigning = Please go away. Come to think of it, she probably was slightly jealous of Argentina (oops,I meant Mark) Sanford's publicity. What a way to get back into the public eye, resigning for no apparent reason. Thanks for reading and commenting.JDHi JD, you're so welcome. You said what I didn't want to say outright. LOL
Can't wait to see how this one plays out.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw her press conference. I had almost forgotten about Sarah Palin and here she is again. To me, there is no greater reminder of how divided this nation is. There are people who believe she is a great leader and represents the values America needs. Then there are those (like me) who can’t imagine what the other side is thinking. Her life is a mess, her leadership skills are non-existent and every time she speaks she insults the intelligence of Americans. I don’t see any middle ground.I really don’t want to go through another election cycle with Sarah Palin again.Hi John,Yes, the country is still divided, but it is not as out front as it was during the Presidential campaign. The ugly side of America came forth, however, it was not allowed to overrun us (amongst other things, look back at the politics of fear, i.e. Obama being pals with terrorists, etc.)As I have said previously, Palin will never win a major national public office, ever. She won't even make it out of her own party primaries. She can't insult the intelligence of Americans, because no one can figure out what she's talking about, especially at hastily called press conferences! Thanks for reading and commenting.JDThanks JD, but what do I do at parties when everyone in the room is talking about how wonderful Palin is, and what a bad rap she's getting from the media?
I think I will have to get new friends.John,Just keep listening to Palin's ramblings during her interviews. There might be a great Palin comedy album out soon. It will be called " How to break the full court press of the misleading media elite." Everyone will be amused !JD
JD, good writing, but nothing we haven't seen before. I am curious about new information coming out about Palin, her polls and the other side of the media coverage. I'm not saying she is all that and a bag of chips, but I do feel she was annihilated along with her family. If someone brings up Obama's birth certificate, or lack of one, that is considered a conspiracy and dropped. Obama's kids are off limits to the media, yet everything she or her family did or said has been inexcusable making her out to be unfit for anything more than a hockey mom. I have no clue why she resigned and we may never know. But, if you don't care for her, give a cheer, because she is now out of the way.Hi JL,It seems that there is new information coming out, such as Palin's claim that she wanted to spare the taxpayers of Alaska the expense of defending ethics charges against her. Turns out that is a false claim, the money was placed into the budget whether there were ethics claims or not.Secondly, the conservative news pundits still like her, that apparently will not change. About her family, I believe it was Palin that thrust them into the limelight, not the other way around. She could of just introduced them and let them fade into the background. Levi Johnson and Bristol Palin did not have to appear at the Republican National Convention. Obama's kids are seen and not heard. I would not question her parenting skills, that's not my call. Birth certificate? If there were any conspiracy theories still about, they should have come out by now.Lastly, you're right, I don't care for her politically speaking. I say 3 cheers for Palin leaving. Hopefully, she will just fade into history, but we have not heard the last of her. Thanks for reading and commenting.JD
I'm pretty sure this is a money grab. She's being offered speaking engagements with ultra conservative groups all over the country for large sums of money, plus she's got a book deal in the works. She can't be governor and do both... It's always the money...Hi Jean,I can see the money grab. There are those that still see Palin as the shining light of the conservatives. Oh well, everyone is entitled to their choices, whether it is politics or money. If one tries to do both, that's a different issue - possibly a crime. Thanks for reading and commenting.JD
Great commentary - You never mince words. I admire you for that Mr. Dred :-)Goog points and sadly true. I do wish her family well, but I have to agree, she might be better off staying out of the lime light.Blessings to you.(Shouldn't it be August 2008? in your opening paragragh?)Hi Teresa,Thanks for pointing out the date, it has been corrected. I never felt that her family should have been part of the political process, however, when she thrust them into the campaign, they unfortunately became targets of the media. It didn't help that her husband took part in the governing of Alaska, he even had an office in the state capital building. I thought he was a fisherman! Thanks for reading and commenting.Blessings to you,JD
